Research from the 451 Alliance shows that enterprises are spending their cloud budgets on software as a service (SaaS) to enable their IoT deployments. Here’s what the data tells us.
APPLICATION AND PLATFORM VENDORS
Microsoft is the application/platform vendor used by the largest share of respondents (58%) as part of their IoT implementations.
Although only 22% of respondents said they currently use Cisco, more than one-third (35%) of respondents would consider using the company in the future.
CLOUD SPENDING
Among IoT respondents planning to spend budget on cloud products in 2020, almost two-thirds (65%) plan to purchase SaaS products to support their IoT initiatives. This was by far the most common cloud spending category; following SaaS was infrastructure as a service (IaaS) at 39%.
Overall, we’re seeing a long-term increase in demand for cloud-based resources as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the recent 451 Alliance Coronavirus Flash Survey.
More than half (54%) of IoT professionals surveyed use Microsoft’s Cloud SaaS for IoT, making Microsoft the most common cloud provider for IoT projects.
IBM seems to have some allure, though; 38% of IoT respondents are open to adopting IBM Cloud products in 2020.
